Pacific Rock Accounting (P.R.A.) is hiring a mid-Vancouver Island based bookkeeper, with an estimated start date in late February 2021. This role will officially be referred to as “Financial Administrator,” which really means “intermediate bookkeeping assistant + administrator.” The person who takes on this role can expect the majority of their time to be spent on bookkeeping projects. The administrative work will be related to managing client CRM systems (Client Record Management), membership processing, setting up event registrations, and other tasks related to clients’ invoicing and payments.

Bookkeepers can be fun and creative, and we are often our clients’ secrets to success. As a bookkeeper, you know that numbers tell stories, and you take pride in helping business owners determine what those stories are. You also love working with and setting up efficient workflows, geek out over accounting technology that makes your job easier, and you find bookkeeping projects energizing and fun…mostly. (Hey, we all have our days, right?)

PRA has, up to this point, been nurtured and grown by founder Merideth Bisiker (she/her), and the firm is growing. While Merideth likes to think she can do everything on her own, the reality is that it’s time to invite a new remote team member to join PRA before she gets run off her feet.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The techy stuff: PRA primarily uses QuickBooks Online, Xero and Hubdoc, and cloud storage apps. PRA will be hiring a bookkeeper with proficiency in completing monthly bookkeeping cycles using QuickBooks Online. We will use an online scheduling app and chat app to coordinate workplans.

You have at least two years’ experience, or the equivalent of two years if you have been working part-time. If you have any certifications, that’s great! If not, that’s OK too, but you’re keen on further employer-paid training when opportunities arise in order to build your skillset.

You’re quite happy working about 20 to 40 hours a month right now (usually 8 hours a week). This is the perfect position for someone who, for whatever reason, wants a part-time job. It’s OK if you have other clients or another job or have little ones at home.

Because you’re coming to this job with recent experience, you’re able to get started with our clients’ full accounting cycles with minimal supervision. Merideth will provide training on various administrative tasks related to memberships and CRMs. You won’t be communicating with clients immediately, but you can expect to become a contact via email and telephone when you familiarize yourself with their files, and to cover communications when Merideth is on vacation or away from the office for an extended period.

This is a work-from-home, part-time position, but that doesn’t mean we’ll be strangers! We’ll meet via Zoom at least once weekly, and we’ll check in regularly through our communication channels. When COVID restrictions are lifted, we can meet in person and we can schedule co-working times when it works for both of us.

> The rate of pay is $18 to $22 per hour, depending on experience.
